Aris Nance, Founder
I sketched, designed, and engineered Layr to scale the sucess of designers, engineers, and PMs. My mission with Layr is to forge, fortify, and preserve the future of product.
Layr began as “Fetch,” an AI-powered UI builder. In the early days, it was exciting, we were shipping features fast and the output was clean. But as more AI tools entered the scene, we really started to feel it, the space was closing in. Every week, a new "UI builder" launched, all promising the same thing. It didn’t feel like innovation anymore, It felt pointless!
At the same time, we noticed a deeper problem. Most of these tools, ours included were trying to replace designers, but they were not grounded in design. They were good at assembling code, but not at understanding form, patterns, or constraints. No-code tools could mimic structure, but they couldn't make decisions rooted in real design thinking.
That’s when the direction changed. What if instead of replacing designers, we built tools that respected them? Tools that gave AI something better to build from — systems, patterns, and principles that actually hold up. Layr is built on that belief. We're a design-first platform for research, making design decisions, and building user interfaces — fast, flexible, and rooted in real design systems. No npm. No build tools. Just a clear, powerful environment for understanding, and crafting UI the right way.Layr V1 includes lightning-fast search across all design systems, interactive documentation for popular frameworks like Carbon, Primer, and Material, and beautifully structured UI templates you can use or remix. Whether you're working with AI or designing by hand, Layr gives you the foundation to build well — and build fast.
Our Journey
2023 - Founded Fetch
We started with a simple mission: Build UI with AI, simple right?
2024 - Pivot
Shutdown Fetch, studied every design system, and started coding.
2025 - Layr
User tested with past Fetch users, aplha tested, beta tested, ready to rock!
